It will be Chinese New Year on Monday the 26th! I should wear my Chinese Princess outfit… no maybe I won’t…
You know what? It just pisses me off that this holiday isn’t listed on some international calendars. They have all these holidays in Japan, France, etc., but Chinese New Year is not listed. What the ****?!
In the folklore about the Chinese Zodiac Animals, they apparently had a race to determine the line up of the animals. Out of all the animals, the Ox is the fastest. So how did the Ox end up coming in second place? Apparently, the Rat is tricky and clever. He hitched a ride on the Ox and jumped off right before the Ox reached the finish line. So that’s how the Ox finished second and why the Rat starts off the year. There is another story concerning the tricky Rat. It seems that the Cat also had a chance in the race. The Cat and Rat were the best of friends. Knowing that he himself could not wake up at such an early hour, he asked his best friend the Rat to wake him up early in the morning for the race. The Rat promised to do so. When the day of the race came, the Rat decided not to wake the Cat up and went to the race by himself. The Cat finally woke up after the race was long over, so he was not eligible to be part of the Zodiac animals. The Cat became very angry at the Rat. They became enemies that day and this is why Cats eat Rats.
Whether this story is actually true or not, I’m not quite sure. But it fits well doesn’t it? Here’s a link to the Zodiac Animals:

While we are celebrating, being grateful for all they good things we have and basking in the warmth of our loved ones, let us do one more thing.
Please pray for a lady, her 3 children, her husband and their parents. Remember to also pass the requests around to all your friends and through your blog.
